It's all about coherence. In your case, it would work to write articles. Once you can master detail, wordiness, over/under writing, and flow through writing articles, writing longer nonfiction becomes simpler. Kind of like writing the script for a TV series. If Season 1 episode 1 is all over the place, what are the odds the season or series itself will work? Gotta start small and work our way up :)
